Reintroducing the MOTALA table lamp.
The MOTALA table lamp was originally designed by the legendary Fritz “Friedel” Wauer and produced in the 1960s by his lighting company, Goldkant.
In 1952, Fritz Wauer pioneered the groundbreaking cocoon technique after reading a newspaper article describing how the U.S. military used liquid polymer threads to protect World War II equipment during transatlantic shipping. Already the holder of a patent for producing tension-free metal wire frames for lampshades, Wauer immediately recognized the potential of combining these two technologies. The result was a new and innovative approach to lighting design.
The MOTALA table lamp is created by spraying a liquid polymer resin thread onto a rotating metal wire frame. The resulting white, semi-translucent shade softly diffuses the light, casting a warm and inviting glow.
With its simple yet intriguing form, MOTALA appears light and almost floating. The lamp is equipped with a 2.5-meter textile cord and a stepless dimmer switch, allowing for effortless adjustment of light intensity.
Designed by Fritz Wauer.
